Houseplant care checklist
Start with observations. The care records are reference material, with no measured mortality or recovery promise.
-
Identify the plant
Write down the botanical name. Check its light and moisture needs before copying another plant’s routine.
-
Inspect the root zone
Check moisture below the surface and look inside the outer pot for standing water. Wilt in wet mix needs inspection before more water.
-
Compare tissue
Dry scars, isolated old-leaf yellowing and soft spreading decay are different observations. Photograph affected and new growth.
-
Look for actual pests
Inspect leaf undersides and stem joints. Identify the pest before selecting a treatment; follow the product label for plant, pest and indoor use.
-
Check recent changes
Record moves, sun exposure, heating, repotting, feeding and sprays. Change the condition supported by these checks.
-
Monitor the next growth
Old damaged tissue does not become undamaged. Check firm tissue and subsequent healthy growth; persistent spreading damage warrants diagnostic help.
For soft decaying roots, retain firm viable tissue and use clean tools and suitable planting materials. Do not use household chemical baths or fertilizer as medicine.
