What is wrong with my plant?
It depends on the symptom and the plant. Yellow lower leaves with wet soil usually point to overwatering or root rot; crispy brown edges with dry soil point to underwatering or low humidity; pale, stretched growth points to too little light; sticky residue or speckled leaves point to pests. Pick your plant below to find the guide for what you see, then check the soil and roots before you change anything.

How this tool works
Where the advice comes from and its limits
The checker is an index of PlantGrail's written problem guides. Each guide explains what the problem looks like, the causes to check and the steps to fix it, with its sources listed. It does not look at your plant; for a diagnosis from a photo, use the iPhone app.
The tool draws on the PlantGrail knowledge base: 4,889 compiled care records across 738 plant names, as of . These are care and symptom records, not measured outcomes, so treat a result as a starting point and check the plant itself.
